The 60kg of cannabis resin, believed to be worth about €420,000, was found by a Donegal-based trawler while fishing off the west coast yesterday.

The bales were brought ashore at Killybegs early this morning.

"The bales had been very well wrapped, and from their condition it is believed that they have been in the sea only for a short period," a Customs spokesman said.

"The skipper of the trawler had immediately advised Customs of the find, and Customs officers and gardaí met the trawler on its return to port."

The find is close to the area where 261kgs of cannabis were found last month by another trawler.
