A manager of a State-owned training centre who defrauded a woman in his care of €55,000 to pay off his own debts has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Brendan Madden, a manager at Thomas Court Centre, a Fás specialist training provider, deceived Monica Duignam into giving him more than half of the compensation money she had received from an incident. Madden (44), of The Park, Liffey Hall, Newbridge in Kildare pleaded guilty to withdrawing sums totalling €55,000 from Ms Duignam’s account on November 5th, 2007, and June 16th, 2008.
