The Department of Agriculture has set up a €100,000 compensation fund for farmers affected by last September's landslides in Co Mayo.

Department of Agriculture officials have carried out a detailed survey of the affected farms to assess the overall damage to farms around Pullathomas in north Mayo.

The package will deal with damage to farm buildings as well as assisting with the removal of debris and restoration of fencing.

The aid scheme follows on from other aid measures to the area including €300,000 distributed by the Red Cross to alleviate hardship.

The Department of the Environment has also been involved in repairing roads and bridges.
