South Armagh farmers have expressed opposition to a proposal by a Newry and Mourne councillor for the conversion of British army hilltop observation posts overlooking the Co Louth border into tourism centres. Mr Pat Toner suggested that the posts could be developed as viewpoints for tourists. However, Ms Toni Carragher, secretary of the South Armagh Farmers Committee, said yesterday: "There is no way we want these structures retained. They must be demolished and the lands which were requisitioned by the British Ministry of Defence restored to local farmers."
