LET there be no misunderstandings without the colossal success of iD's Doom and its sequel Doom 2, games like this would never have seen the light of day. Every game developer throughout the world is currently trying to out do Doom and pre empt its successor Quake (due out in April).
Cybermage is the latest in a long line of pretenders to the throne and, like those that have gone before it, doesn't have the required breeding. It's hard to pinpoint what's missing but it just doesn't appear to have that special ingredient.
In Doom there is one simple goal kill everything in sight. However, with Cybermage there is also a small puzzle element while this can enhance the game, sometimes all you want to do is have a quick blast without the hassle of thinking, which is where one of Doom's strengths lies.
Another of Doom's strong points is the ability to play across networks and by modem. Omitting this feature, as Cybermage does, is fatal in this day and age.
