A babycare appeal for Kosovo was launched yesterday by the Irish charity, Cradle, with formula milk, nappies and rash cream among the most urgently required products.

In recent weeks the needs of refugees, particularly children and babies, have been identified by Cradle workers on the ground. Other items requested are shampoo, soap, toothpaste, baby powder, towels, new baby clothes, bottles, teats, and dried baby food.

The charity has been sending aid to the former Yugoslavia since 1992 and is currently working in partnership with the Norwegian Aid charity in Albania. All goods received will be distributed by Cradle volunteers around Shkoder, the second-largest town in Albania. An estimated 2,000 Kosovan refugees are arriving daily at the town's four refugees camps.

According to Cradle founder Ms Jadzia Kaminska, all donations will be sent to the region on May 4th. "We have five trucks which we can send at that time and the infrastructure for the distribution of the goods has already been set up in Albania,," she said.
