The Supreme Court has reserved judgment on two appeals in which convicted drug-dealer John Gilligan and another individual and company, who cannot be identified by order of the court, are challenging the constitutionality of the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1996.

The Criminal Assets Bur eau operates on the basis of the 1996 Act and is opposing both appeals.
