The Labour Court is to intervene once more in the Aer Lingus dispute in an effort to avert Friday's strike.

Both sides agreed to refer the claim by more than 3,000 ground staff to "equity" with cabin crew on pay increases to the court after five hours of talks at the Labour Relations Commission failed to make progress yesterday.

Afterwards Aer Lingus's director of corporate affairs, Mr Dan Loughrey, said the company believed "all claims had been settled in a fair and equitable manner" already.

SIPTU's chief negotiator Mr Noel Dowling said the company had not changed its position "an iota" during yesterday's discussions at the LRC.
