A husband and wife have denied assaulting, threatening to kill and falsely imprisoning two employees of Dublin-based Asset Security at their family-run piggery in Co Longford in 2010.

Donal and Margaret Connaughton of Elfeet, Newtowncashel, Co Longford, are charged with assault causing

harm, threatening to kill and falsely imprisoning Asset Security employees Justin Tighe and Patrick Mulvey at the piggery on April 29th, 2010.

The couple both entered not guilty pleas to the charges when arraigned at Longford Circuit Court yesterday.

Mr Connaughton pleaded not guilty to a further two charges of criminal damage in relation to a Nokia mobile phone and satellite navigation system belonging to Mr Mulvey on the same date.

A jury has been empanelled for the court hearing which is expected to last for approximately four days.

Evidence is due to begin today before Judge Terence O’Sullivan at Longford Circuit Court.
