A judge has rejected a claim by a Co Meath man that he was dragged by the wrists from a Dublin nightclub and dumped in a wet alley until an ambulance arrived. Mr Mark Lynch (23), of Father Cullen Park, Kells, failed in Dublin Circuit Civil Court yesterday in a claim for up to £30,000 damages against Fibber Magees nightclub, O'Connell Street, Dublin.

Judge Raymond Groarke was told Mr Lynch had been accidentally knocked down in the disco in February 1995 and, because of a previous back injury, had difficulties in getting up. Mr Lynch claimed bouncers ignored his pleas to be left on the floor until he could get up himself and had dragged him out, aggravating a previous sports injury to his spine.

Judge Groarke said he was satisfied Mr Lynch had been "chair lifted" into the passageway to await the arrival of an ambulance and that any injury he may have suffered was caused by the shove to his back when jostled in the crowd.
