Sheffield - A woman who won a lengthy battle to be artificially inseminated with her dead husband's semen gave birth last night to a healthy baby boy.

Liam Stephen Blood was born to Diane Blood at Jessop Hospital, in Sheffield, in the north of England. Ms Blood and her 30-year-old husband Stephen were planning to have children when he was struck down with meningitis and died in February 1995. She persuaded doctors to remove sperm from his body while he was on a life-support machine.
