UK airport operator BAA today said it had dropped plans to build a second runway at London's Stansted Airport, citing likely changes in the government's airports policy.

The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition has said it will refuse additional runways at Stansted and also at Gatwick, as well as cancelling plans for a third runway at Heathrow.

BAA is owned by Spanish builder Ferrovial.
