Gardai in Navan are investigating an attempt to remove a large stone from the Hill of Tara during which the main burial chamber was entered after a lock was broken on the metal gate at the entrance.
The report by an OPW staff member was made to gardai who say there were no witnesses. An attempt was also made to move a large stone at the rear of the tomb which weighs about 1 1/2 tonnes.
