A slim majority of Protestants in the North oppose The Way Forward proposals put forward by the British and Irish governments, according to a newspaper poll released today.

The survey in the News Letter shows that 53 per cent are against the proposal to set up a power-sharing executive before paramilitary disarmament.

Although less than 30 per cent support British Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair's position, 19 per cent are still undecided.

Of those who said they backed the Ulster Unionist Party, 43 per cent said Sinn Fein should be included in an executive with disarmament starting within days.
