THE KITCHEN AT 1a Lower Albert Road, Sandycove (see page 4) mixes the rough-hewn finish of the dining table and bench with the smooth white Pro Glass White Alno Kitchen from McNally Living (01-660 4856).
These units have handle-free glass doors that are surrounded by an aluminium trim – the recessed handle is also in aluminium.
The contrast in textures continues in the countertops; stainless steel for work areas and Basaltina on the island. This kitchen costs about €50,000.
The iroko dining table and bench were sourced from a store on Francis Street. Try furniture designers Zelouf and Bell (01-4419222) who can create a comparable simple solid oak table and bench, with a hand-rubbed, hard wax oil or lacquer finish, from €3,500.
The white Solo dining chairs are by BB Italia, and cost €1,090 from Minima.
The room also contains a lava-stone fireplace surround that is very simple yet extremely effective. The owner of the house designed this herself and then had Hearth and Home (01-6200100) make it up for her.
