What and Where
A three-bed semi facing a beautiful large green area in the lovely estate of Summerfield. The train station is a 10-minute walk, as is Roselawn shopping centre where you can shop round the clock in the 24-hour Tesco. You can drive to the Phoenix Park in less than 10 minutes.
Describe the house
The house, built in 1997, has a redbrick front with a bay window, and all the rooms are very bright and spacious. There are three bedrooms, two with built-in wardrobes; the main bedroom is en suite.
Downstairs are two reception rooms, a large kitchen/breakfastroom, utility room and conservatory. The front garden has parking for three cars. The pretty back garden is laid out in lawn and shrubs.
Why are you moving?
We are after a taste of the good life! We have both lived in Dublin all our lives and are longing for a change. The children have grown up and flown the nest and we feel now is the time. We would like a house in the country with up to an acre of land, where we can grow fruit and vegetables and perhaps even keep a few chickens.
We have always thought that we would eventually retire to the country and although we are nowhere near retirement age, we started to look into it recently and found two areas that we love, one in Kildare, the other in Wicklow. Once we discovered that we could commute to work from these areas we realised we could turn our dream into a reality.
What's the best thing about it
We have loved living in this house for the past 10 years and being close to all that Blanchardstown and Dublin city have to offer. There are some features of this house that we really love: one is the sheltered south-facing back garden, a real suntrap and a great place to have barbeques or sit and have a glass of wine in the evening. Another feature we are fond of is the conservatory, which is also south facing. There is a grapevine in there which gives us a bumper crop of grapes every year.
And the neighbourhood?
Summerfield is quite a small estate; very pretty, with some lovely trees and very nice open green areas. We are in the catchment area for some very good local schools, both primary and secondary. Blanchardstown is a fantastic place for leisure facilities. There are two gymnasiums within walking distance, and the National Aquatic centre is just up the road.
For walking enthusiasts, 10 minutes' walk from our house is the Royal Canal towpath, which we have used to walk all the way to Mullingar. The Phoenix Park is practically on our doorstep.
And for shopping, you couldn't get much better than Blanchardstown shopping centre. There are some fantastic restaurants in the Blanchardstown and Castleknock areas.
Who would like to live in your home?
A family would suit because this is a very safe place for children to play. There are no through roads, plenty of open spaces and we're near schools and crèches. There are many employment opportunities within the area, good transport links and excellent leisure facilities.
