£2m-plus for riverbank hotel

About £2 million is being sought for Innishannon House, a fine country house hotel fronting on to the Bandon river at Innishannon, Co Cork.

Peter Cave, of Hamilton Osborne King, says the next owners may well choose to convert the Georgian house back into a private residence. It has 13 en suite bedrooms and several fine reception rooms, including a 33 ft by 35 ft function room. A year-old four-bedroom staff house and a dormer bungalow with four bedrooms and three bathrooms are included in the sale.

Innishannon House was built in 1720 in a beautiful rural location on the south facing bank of the river. It stands on six acres of private grounds. A further four acres on the opposite side of the river has been planted in hardwoods to ensure long-term privacy.

There is a small pier and slip-way on the river for boating enthusiasts. Kinsale is a mere 15-minute trip down-river from Innishannon. By road, it is an eight mile journey while Cork city is within 12 miles.

The three-storey house is dominated by a bow front, which gives it architectural distinction and style. It has been extended several times.

Innishannon has been run as a high quality country house hotel and was one of only 50 hotels worldwide to secure a Travel Holiday Award last year. It is marketed internationally through the Manor House Hotel Group and attracts a constant flow of foreign guests. The bedrooms have been fitted out to a particularly high specification and have radio, TV and direct dial facilities.

The drawing room is handsome and both it and the dining room are bright and spacious. The dining room has an attractive parquet floor, a marble fireplace and part-panelled walls.

The hotel, which has a circular bar in the function room, has catered for weddings and other receptions. Its location close to both Cork Airport and Kinsale makes it a convenient hideaway for guests.
