Milish Foods, the Tallaght-based bakery, which has appointed Mr Jim O'Mahoney, former chief executive officer of Golden Vale, as non-executive chairman, has embarked on a £1 million plant update. Mr O'Mahoney, who was paid £500,000 compensation for loss of office at Golden Vale, purchased a minority stake in Milish, the reconstituted KC Hot Shops.

The other minority shareholder is Genesis Corporation controlled by Mr Michael O'Rourke, formerly marketing director of Green Isle Foods, who has also been appointed to the Milish board. The remaining equity is held by Mr Liam Coghlan, managing director.

Milish makes Irish scones and muffins. It has a turnover of £3 million and Mr O'Mahoney told The Irish Times this should double in two years time. Milish employs 47 people and the addition of new products, following the investment, will create 10 new jobs in a years time, he said. Mr O'Mahoney said he spends one day a week in Milish. He has a number of other investments including Ennis Foods, based in Killygordan, in Donegal. It has developed a new product of cereal and milk with an extended shelf life of milk.

It is distributed in 1,000 shops within the M25 around London and this will be extended to 5,000 by the end of this month, he said.
