The latest accounts for Mars 2112 Group Ltd in the Companies Registration Office are for the period to the end of October 2000, a period before the September 11th bombings that have been blamed for some of the group's problems, writes Colm Keena

The accounts showed a turnover of $13.5 million and a loss before tax of $1.5 million.

A return for the year up to May 15th, 2001 listed a considerable number of shareholders, many of them companies registered in offshore locations such as the Isle of Man and Jersey.

Among the individuals listed were: Mr Eugene McQuillan, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4; Mr Finbarr Power, Delgany, Co Wicklow; and Mr Marcus Newby, Berkshire, England.

The directors at the time were: Ms Anne Sommerville (née Phelan); Mr Paschal Phelan; Mr Patrick Gleeson; Ms Liavin Mallin; Mr Tim Brosnan; and Ms Mary Stephanie Hanlon.

Mr Kevin Warren became a director of the company on January 27th, 2003, as did Mr Jerry Sheehan. Mr Mark Phelan became a director in July 2002, according to the filings in the Companies Registration Office.

The most recent return for the related company, Mars 2112 Global Ltd, is for the year to May 2001. The company is 50 per cent owned by Mr Paschal Phelan and 50 per cent owned by Mars 2112 Group Ltd. The directors are Mr Phelan and Ms Sommerville.

Financial statements for the year to the end of October 2000 show the company returned a profit that year of $87,940. The accounts state the company provides consultancy services, financial support, treasury services and intellectual property rights to group companies. It owns the concept for the group's theme restaurants and charges a royalty fee.
