Irish Life (Retail) expects to create 150 jobs in Dundalk, Co Louth, as part of its plans for a customer-services facility in the town, writes Ciaran Brennan. The 20,000 sq ft facility in Finnabair Business Park should be operating by early 2002.

Recruitment for the jobs starts shortly and should be filled locally, the company has said, as no existing Irish Life staff will be required to transfer to the facility.

Job creation in Dundalk has been a priority for the Government following several closures in the town recently.

"Following the Guinness closure announcement in Dundalk, I stressed the urgent need to encourage new employment for the area and today's announcement will, I hope, lead to further positive development," said the Tanaiste, Ms Harney. She said the announcement was a direct result of Enterprise Ireland's commitment to work with Dublin firms to look at regional locations for planned expansions. Mr Denis Casey, chief executive of Irish Life (Retail), said: "We were attracted by the high quality of available labour in Dundalk."
