Next Thursday is D-Day for the Revenue's voluntary disclosure scheme for people with bogus non-resident accounts.
To date, only about £10 million (€12.7 million) has been paid under the scheme - a very small figure given the number of such accounts believed to exist. Persons who make a voluntary disclosure will not be named, will be charged a maximum of 100 per cent of the tax due in interest and penalties, and will not be prosecuted.
The Revenue has warned that those who do not avail of the scheme and who are subsequently discovered will be named, be liable to full interest and penalties, and may be subjected to criminal prosecution.
