Duggan snatches late win for Cork against UCD

David McMillan opened the scoring for UCD but dominant Cork pull through for the win

Cork City 2 UCD 1: Shane Duggan struck late on against his former club to snatch victory for Cork City in front of an attendance of 2,076 at Turner's Cross .

Late goals have cost Cork on a few occasions this season already but this time Duggan struck a magnificent 30-yard effort into the top corner to seal City’s second league win of the season.

Struggling UCD got off to a good start on this occasion thanks to David McMillan who headed home his fourth goal of the season from Samir Belhout’s inviting cross after just 15 minutes.

Cork dominated possession but didn’t conjure an equaliser until the final kick of the first half, Daryl Kavanagh diverting Daryl Horgan’s initial 20-yard effort into the net.

City continued to control the game but UCD could easily have retaken the lead on 58 when McNulty brought McMillan down, only for the striker’s tame penalty to be easily saved as the goalkeeper redeemed himself.

The home side then piled the pressure on, but just as it looked like they would be heading for a third 1-1 draw, Duggan let fly and sent a tetchy crowd home happy.
