A chance to play in the Dublin GAA Golf Classic in Druids Glen awaits the winners of the new Dublin Inter Club competition, which will take place at St Margaret's on Wednesday May 10th. This is the first year of the Musgrave-sponsored competition and the format is for teams of four (men, women or mixed) playing the stableford format. The cost for a team of four is £300, which includes green fees and evening meal.

Dooley's Hotel and Waterford Crystal have joined forces to promote an in-season family golf package which should appeal to all golfers. Timed for mid July, it will take the form of a 72-hole Family Pairs tournament over four days at Waterford, Waterford Castle, Tramore and Faithlegg courses. Teams can be any pair from the grouping of father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister, and will be scored on the best aggregate points from 54 holes with separate prizes each day. The package, including four night B & B and the 72 holes of competitive golf is priced at £260.

All the excitement of the Winter League at Fota Island was left to the last day. After playing in six aggregate matches, Liam Treacy's team and Frank O'Mahony's team finished level, resulting in a play-off after Jerry Ahern birdied the 18th and forced the extra holes against Mossie Carroll. Ahern also birdied the first tie-hole, as did Carroll. Another Carroll birdie on the 20th was enough to seal victory for Treacy's team.

The Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland accredited 10 new level one coaches at their recent annual seminar in Thurles. Coaching and development administrator Michael Hayes chaired a wideranging discussion on all aspects of the PPUI's coaching structures, and president Mervyn Cooney issued the certificates to Jim Chamberlain (CYMC), Anto Gray (IGB), John Matthews (Ierne), Francis Minogue (Millhouse), Eddie O'Keeffe (Erin's Isle), Michael O'Connor (Ierne), Paddy Power (Hillview), Paul Rohan (Riverdale), John Russell (Campions) and Stephanie Stapleton (Clare Road).
