Pierce Redmond proved that there is life after the captaincy by humbling the sunny slopes of Howth golf club last week while playing in the monthly medal. Playing off a 12 handicap, Redmond, who was club captain last year, carded a nett 60.

He had the remarkable score of five gross for the three par threes, and aced the challenging fourth and birdied the eighth and 15th. Inspired by Pierce's success, wife Phil won the Ladies hamper in partnership with Carmel MacCanna on the following day.
