VINNIE JONES has finally decided to take legal action to change the domestic transfer system and issue a High Court writ this week, it is understood.

Yesterday he received the most high profile backing for his campaign to bring the domestic transfer system into line with the Bosman ruling from the Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards.

Jones is ready to take legal action to force the English soccer authorities to allow players a free transfer at the end of their contracts when they move between domestic clubs.

The player and his legal advisers are believed to be preparing a writ at the moment which will be served on his club Wimbledon this week. That is the first port of call in this legal process as Jones seeks the right to a free transfer when his Wimbledon contract expires this summer.

Edwards said that at present, if an English club was interested in out of contract British and continental European players of similar abilities, it would usually go for the continental star because there would be no transfer fee involved.

"If you go for the English player, you're forced to pay a fee - it almost encourages you to bring in foreign players. It doesn't seem right to have two systems operating in parallel."
