OBITUARY: THE DEATH occurred at the weekend of former Clare GAA County Board chairman Fr Michael McNamara.
A native of the Kilmaley parish, Fr McNamara had a lifelong involvement with the GAA in his native county, both as an administrator and team mentor. He served as chairman of the county board from 1999 until 2004, having previously been vice-chairman from 1994 to 1998.
With Eamonn Cregan as coach, McNamara was at the helm as Clare senior hurling manager from 1983-’84. He was also part of the selection committee for Clare at both minor and under-21 levels. He was camogie team-manager when Clare captured a pair of junior All-Ireland titles.
