Davids Lad top weight

Racing: Twenty-three horses have been declared for Monday's Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National, with Davids Lad top weight for the €170,000 highlight.

The Tony Martin-trained horse, controversially denied the chance to run in the Aintree Grand National, won the Easter feature two years ago, but it is 25 years since a former winner regained the crown.

He is one of three runners trained by Martin, and last season's winner, The Bunny Boiler, makes up another triple entry from the Noel Meade yard.

The field is larger than appeared likely earlier in the week with the fine weather threatening fast ground.

Yesterday the going on the Grand National track was "good" and "good to firm" in places.

The National is the feature of an extensive Easter programme that sees 15 race meetings in Britain on Monday. Despite that, several top jockeys will travel from Britain to ride at Fairyhouse, including Tony McCoy, who is booked to ride Winning Dream in the National. Best Mate's jockey Jim Culloty is on Timbera in the big race, while Mick Fitzgerald will ride Ross Moff.

And Barry Geraghty will be trying to make his own little bit of history on The Dell. Geraghty, who won the Aintree National on Monty's Pass two weeks ago, will try to emulate Tommy Carberry, the last jockey to win both Grand Nationals in the same year in 1975.
