Madam, - A recent survey stated, in a tone of shock and horror, that many Irish people were working up to 60 hours a week and that many businessmen were taking work home with them. One of the reasons that the EU is losing so many jobs to Eastern Europe, India and the Far East is that people over there see such working hours as fairly normal if they want to get and keep work. Nor do they waste time doing surveys on it.

Globalisation means that European businessmen are no longer a protected species. Trade unions and parasitical sociologists need to understand that clearly before pushing their case too hard. - Yours, etc.,
