Madam, – The Wall Street Journal's criticism of the increase in Government spending over the past decade appears to be based upon ideological aversion to government rather than a reflection of any international evidence (reproduced in Opinion, June 1st).
Pre-crisis levels of Government expenditure relative to GDP were consistently among the lowest in the OECD, while tax breaks aimed at the wealthy were several times that of our neighbours. – Yours, etc,
