Madam, - I am a postgraduate student at UCD studying for a PhD in sociology. My thesis is a study of the lasting effects of industrial and reform schools on their residents after they left those places and went into the world outside. I am seeking to interview men and women in Ireland and Britain who were confined in institutions in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
Apart from some very fine autobiographical accounts there is very little literature on the subject, certainly not from the sociological aspect. It is important to uncover this secret part of Irish history and for survivors to be heard.
