Sir, - I refer to Angela McNamara's letter (July 30th) concerning the unfortunate kitten that strayed into the biology class, only to find the determination of its gender a matter of blushing debate and vote - rather than examination - by these presumably secondary level science students. Ms McNamara concludes that referenda are no way to arrive at the truth.
Your readers will be relieved to know that the proposed new Relationships and Sexuality Programme for schools might prevent further "embarrassed silence" from students. They will now be taught to identify external parts of the male and female bodies - in infant classes. - Yours, etc.,
Upper Kilmacud Road,
