Sir, - Next year we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of man's first visit to the moon. Interestingly, with the development of aviation, we can now travel to London more cheaply than 20 years ago.

Unfortunately, at ground level, particularly at Dublin Airport, standards have regressed and the existing terminal exhibits all of the characteristics of a modern slum.

Architecturally, the building complex now has a form similar to a giant squid to which additional tentacles are stitched on with ever increasing frequency. This malformed creation sucks an ever larger mass of seething population into an environment that is noisy and overcrowded as you are regurgitated about the complex.

My memory of "Collinstown" in 1960, with its convenience and architectural splendour as I awaited the arrival of the single London flight, was a more up-lifting experience. - Yours, etc., Frank Ryan,
