Sir, While completely agreeing with Eamon O Broin's sane and sensible suggestion (September 18th) that farmers desist from putting their cows in calf instead of slaughtering them at six weeks old, I am left wondering if we are now into the business of set aside" cows, and whether or not the progression from here will result in set aside farmers.
