Madam, - I was pleased to note that RTÉ News on Tuesday night, unusually, carried the story of a Brazilian family in Gort, Co Galway, who had the fortune to win €116,406 in last weekend's euro millions lottery draw.
It is rare in these times to have a "happy ending" story on the evening news.
It is especially pleasing to see the joy that this amount of money, which will be considered small by many, brought to the Duarte family.
This is something, we as Irish people should consider strongly in our growing tendencies to become a grab-all society.
Your own newspaper (Nov 8th) carried a little article outlining the Duartes' win. In contrast, Patsy McGarry's larger article, "Ireland is 'cash rich, but culturally poor'", (Nov 8th) indicates the concerns that, unfortunately, are making headline news every day in Ireland.
Can I suggest, Madam, that in future, a good news article receives a little more in the line of coverage?
In this day and age, we require all the good news we can get! - Yours, etc,
CLARE MINIHANE, Hill Street, Dublin 1.
