Sir, – Brianna Parkins’s article on Hiberno-English was a joy to read (“In Ireland you’re blessed with daily poetry in the most mundane interactions”, Magazine, September 14th).
My father and my first primary school teacher used the phrase, “C’mere to me you”. It usually meant I was in trouble, the degree to which I could predetermine from their emphasis on and accentuation of the “C’mere”. – Yours, etc,
