Sir, – Brian Ó Éigeartaigh expresses confidence that the moribund Occupied Territories Bill would have “accomplished” the banning of “the importation of the ill-gotten gains of illegal settlement programmes worldwide” (Letters, March 20th).
That would be only if the Minister for Foreign Affairs were to list all such programmes worldwide, lest Ireland be accused of singling out Israel.
Such a clumsy Bill would not only lead to Ireland being on a diplomatic collision course with Israel, but also endanger our strong bilateral relations with other friendly states that do much trade with us. – Yours, etc,
