A 17 year old student froze to death as he walked home of one of the coldest nights ever recorded in Ireland, an inquest was told yesterday.

David Neill, from Crawfordstown Road, Drumaness, Co Down, died from hypothermia as he attempted to walk home after a night out at a St Stephen's night disco in Downpatrick. His body was found at farmland near Downpatrick four days later on December 30th.

The inquest in Downpatrick heard that temperatures on the night the teenager disappeared dropped to -8 Celsius.
