Leading scientists were among those who yesterday received honorary degrees at Trinity College Dublin.

The conferrals took place as part of the Dublin City of Science 2012 celebrations associated with the EuroScience Open Forum which takes place in the city in July.

Immunologist and Nobel Prize winner Prof Peter Doherty received an honorary degree, as did cosmologist Prof Sir Roger Penrose; Prof William Campbell, a parasitologist who helped to develop Ivermectin medicine; clinical scientist Dr John Climax; and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, a businesswoman and innovator based in Bangalore.
