Woman killed in Galway house fire named

The 79-year old woman who died following a fire at her home at Keernaun, Headford, Co Galway this morning has been named.

The 79-year old woman who died following a fire at her home at Keernaun, Headford, Co Galway this morning has been named.

Ms Peggy Gill died after a fire broke out at her thatched house at around 2 a.m.

The emergency services were called to the scene, where it took two hours to extinguish the blaze.

Three other occupants of the house, Ms Gill's husband (79), daughter (45) and sister (79) escaped unharmed.

The house was destroyed by the fire, and a forensic examination is underway at the scene.

A post-mortem is due to be conducted later today.
