Gardaí have named the man (71) who died yesterday when he was struck by the trailer of an articulated truck in Tipperary town.

John Crowe of Father Matthew Street, Tipperary, was killed on Main Street in the town at 4.30pm.

Gardaí are appealing for anybody who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 062-80670 or any Garda station.

Gardaí have also named the truck driver who died on Tuesday night after a crash in Co Limerick. The collision between two trucks happened at 1.45pm on the N24 at Boher, Caherconlish.

Jim McCarthy (52) from Newcestown, Bandon, Co Cork, was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he later died A man who died when a van went out of control and crashed on Monday night in Co Limerick, was also named.

Jason Nash (21) from Garrellen, Fedamore, Co Limerick, died in the crash at Fedamore Cross at 10.25pm. He was the front seat passenger of the van that hit a stone wall.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mid-West Regional Hospital.

The driver of the van was treated for injuries, which were not believed to be life threatening. Gardaí at Roxboro Road are investigating.

So far this year, 142 people have died on the State's roads.
