The UN chief war crimes prosecutor, Ms Louise Arbour, will today begin investigating the massacre. Heading a seven-person team, she is expected in Skopje, capital of the Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, at noon today to meet representatives of the OSCE. She is demanding immediate access to the areas around Racak.
Meanwhile, Britain said yesterday that Europe and the US would press Belgrade to suspend the Serb officers responsible. The Foreign Secretary, Mr Robin Cook, speaking before the emergency Brussels NATO meeting, dismissed claims by Serb authorities that its forces had been involved in a battle with villagers. "The observers saw no evidence of fighting," he said.
