A 41-year-old man and a woman in her 50s were killed overnight in hit-and-run incidents in Co Kildare and Co Down respectively.
Gardaí in Newbridge are appealing for witnesses after the man, who was standing on the road at Tipeenan near Kilcullen, was struck by a car at around 1 a.m.
They are investigating reports that a green Vauxhall Cavalier may have been involved.
In Co Down, a 61-year-old has been arrested following a hit-and-run on the Comber Road in Newtownards shortly before 10 p.m.
