Two men held for questioning in connection with the fatal attack of Ciaran O’Connell (22) in Co Cavan last weekend have been charged.

Mr O’Connell died from injuries sustained in an assault during a St Patrick’s Day party at a house in Rosehill, Mullagh, in the early hours of the morning.

He was removed to Cavan General Hospital to be treated for his injuries before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital when his condition deteriorated. He was pronounced dead in the early hours of March 21st.

Mr O’Connell and his family had moved to Mullagh from Dublin some 10 years ago.

The men in their 20s arrested yesterday morning were being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Bailieborough Garda station.

They will appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court at 5pm today in connection with the incident.
