TURIN - Two Italian professors look set to rekindle a centuries old debate on the shroud of Turin, once venerated as the burial cloth of Christ. In an article in the Catholic daily Avvenire, the Turin professors Mr Nello Balossino and Mr Pierluigi Baima Bollone say their research could refute widely held radiocarbon dating of the shroud to between 1260 and 1390. They say they have identified the faint image of an ancient Roman coin bearing the date AD 29 near the left eye on the cloth.
