A teenage girl was killed today and another left fighting for her life after a road crash in Co Limerick.
The two girls and a male passenger were travelling in a car when it hit a tree in Glenstal, near the village of Murroe. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash early today.
The other female passenger was taken to the Mid-West Regional Hospital in Limerick, where she is said to be in a critical condition. The male passenger escaped with minor injuries.
Investigating gardai at Cappagh said there was no other vehicle involved. The latest death brings to 319 the number of people killed on the state's roads since the beginning of this year, representing more than one road death a day.
