DUSHANBE - A guerrilla group in the Central Asian state of Tajikistan seized seven foreign UN military observers and 15 other hostages and threatened to shoot them unless its demands were met by tomorrow.

In Moscow, ongoing peace talks continued without any apparent result and were due to resume today. A UN source said the guerrillas held up a column carrying UN personnel, Tajik officials and members of the armed Islamic opposition yesterday.
