Copenagen - Half a million workers demanding a sixth week of salaried holidays walked off the job yesterday in Denmark's biggest strike in 13 years, triggering panic-buying in the country's supermarkets.

Workers in the transport, construction, manufacturing and service sectors supported the stoppage. Scandinavian Airlines System cancelled all its flights to and from Copenhagen, while other airlines scrambled to cover about 200 of the 500 cancelled flights. Across the country, Danes got out their bicycles as bus drivers observed the strike.
