Stabbing victim in critical condition

A 38-year-old man was in a critical condition in hospital yesterday after he was stabbed outside a pub in Co Tyrone.

The man was attacked on Main Street, Dromore and staggered to the town's O'Neill Terrace before collapsing. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was described as critically ill.

A 19-year-old man was arrested by police and questioned in connection with the incident.

Part of Dromore Main Street and the town's by-pass remained sealed off yesterday as forensic experts examined the scene.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in west Belfast as he made his way home from a night out.

The man was walking with a friend when both men were confronted and chased by a group of five to seven men near the junction of the Old Whiterock Road and Springfield Road.

The victim was caught by his pursuers before receiving a stab wound to the back. Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
