London - Queen Elizabeth has ordered an armed bodyguard for royal bride-to-be Sophie Rhys-Jones, the Sun tabloid reports today.
It said the decision was prompted by last week's murder of top BBC television presenter Jill Dando, whom Sophie resembles in looks. Ms Rhys-Jones (34), due to marry the queen's youngest son Prince Edward in June, was being guarded by officers from the elite Royal Protection Squad, the paper said. The Prince's fiancee was escorted by a police bodyguard when she arrived yesterday at the central London offices of her public relations firm.
Detectives investigating Ms Dando's murder were last night following up new information gleaned from a fresh appeal for witnesses held at the crime scene. A team of police officers and detectives yesterday returned to the quiet street in south-west London where Ms Dando was shot in the hope that someone might remember a vital piece of evidence.
