Controversial British rock singer Pete Doherty was remanded in custody today after pleaded guilty to heroin possession for the second time in a week.
Doherty (26), lead singer with Babyshambles and The Libertines, heightened his profile through his on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, who was recently accused of being a cocaine user in the British tabloid press.
He was was arrested by police yesterday evening who thought he looked "disheveled and suspicious," prosecutors said.
Refusing bail, District Judge Stephen Dawson said he was "sorry if my order will affect your fans and people who go to your concerts".
It is the latest in a string of drug busts for the troubled singer. Doherty appeared at the same court a week ago and admitted possessing heroin, crack cocaine, morphine and marijuana. He was freed on bail.
He also is on bail after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and heroin following a November 30th arrest. Earlier this month he pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and cocaine and is due before a court on February 8th.
The maximum sentence for possession of "Class A" drugs such as heroin and cocaine is seven years in prison.
